Writing Life

Creative Juices Part 2

Creative juices, visionary thoughts, imagination, artistic inspiration, creative flow and other words and phrases all refer to creativity and flow of ideas. These are necessary for artists, authors, composers and others in artistic fields.

When I work as a pharmacist, I don’t need to get inspired to fill a prescription. I just do it while looking for drug interactions, allergies, and insurance issues.

But writing uses another part of my brain. I treat my writing as a career. I get up like any other morning, have my coffee, enter my office, and get to work.

If I hit a wall, I sometimes go for a walk or golf cart ride on the island near me. Sometimes, I go to the library or a local coffee shop for a change of scenery and a brain reset.

If you’re a creative, what do you do when you hit a wall?

These are some pictures of my area. Spending time outside helps me recharge and sometimes ideas come to me. Then I can return to my office and get back to work.

Have a great day!

Time to Refresh

Over the weekend, I took a break from watching the news. I needed a to step away from the negativity, and I feel refreshed.

How did I fill my time? My husband and I worked on our yard and we took golf cart rides and walked on the beach in the evenings.

How do you recharge? Do you safely go out and enjoy nature? Cook? Read a good book or watch a movie? I’d love to hear from you.

Thanks for stopping by!

Is It a Groin or a Jetty?

We used to have groins on Pawleys Island before beach renourishment began. The groins began on the south end of the beach and were spaced about four houses apart all the way up to the pier. Groins are engineered to go out to the sea and prevent erosion from waves coming in at an angle. I’m not an engineer and can’t explain the pros and cons of groins, but it can be a hot topic.

This is a groin on Pawleys Island.

We don’t have jetties on Pawleys Island, but there is one at Huntington Beach State Park in Murrells Inlet. A jetty is much bigger than a groin. It is used to help control currents and provides protection for a channel at an inlet. They are also used to help prevent beach erosion.

Because of beaches closing for social distancing, I haven’t been able to spend time on the beach for weeks. The last time I was on the beach the groins had disappeared. I don’t know if they are buried under the ‘new’ sand. If so, will the reappear one day? Once I discover the answer, I’ll be sure to share it with you.

Stay safe my friends!
